On May 31, 2012, during his tour to promote The Serpent’s Shadow, the latest book in the The Kane Chronicles trilogy, Riordan read part of the first chapter of the book. Two weeks after The Son of Neptune was released, Rick Riordan announced on his website that he was already working on the Heroes of Olympus series, having started writing The Mark of Athena.
